New Trends in Touch Screen Kiosk Development

Specializing in touch screen kiosk program development for the past 15 years, we’ve seen trends come and go.  Early on touch screen exhibit programs were very expensive and a monumental task to complete.  We’d like to think that our unique approach to serve the museum industry has helped touch screen kiosks be more accessible to more museums.  Recently we’ve seen a quickly growing interest in “do-it-yourself” software products for kiosk development.


2011 was a busy year for us at point2explore due, in part, to our new product line of DIY touch screen software products.  More and more, budgets are being squeezed and exhibit managers are faced with keeping more and more in house.  That was the catalyst for our DIY products.  Over the past 24 months we’ve developed a number of touch screen kiosk programs designed to be easy to customize and update by our customers.  These programs are quickly becoming some of our biggest sellers.


Our most basic DIY offering is our PowerPoint template.  It is possible to create interactive, touch screen programs using PowerPoint but many beginner and intermediate users would find it difficult to create the interactivity needed for a successful touch screen program.  In answer to that need, we developed an inexpensive template that when opened in PowerPoint has the interactivity already in place in an easy to edit format.  If you can use PowerPoint, you can use this template.


We also found that our customers desired easily updatable programs to be integrated with other interactive programs.  We developed our DIY i-Viewer program which allows for interactive viewing of photos, videos and pdf files.  This program builds its own touch screen menu based on the file folders you create and fill with content.  It doesn’t get much easier than that. 


Another great DIY program we offer is a touch screen calendar program where you can keep your events calendar up to date on your kiosks.  By simply updating a Google Calendar online, our program will read your event data from the Google Calendar and display it in an easy to navigate format on your kiosk.
