The idea of content updates for your touch screen kiosk systems might be overwhelming. You know how much work it is to develop an interactive, educational program and you remember how happy you were when it was finished. But your investment in time and money could be losing value with stagnant content.
If you have a kiosk running software developed by a vendor you have some options as far as updating content. The obvious route is to rewrite some content, update some images and send it to the vendor to update the software and reload a new version of the touch screen software. This probably will not be extremely expensive assuming that the program is not too old and that the vendor has retained the source code. It is certainly worth the phone call to the vendor to get cost estimates. Another, maybe less obvious option is to add an easily updatable program to the kiosk. By adding a main menu that contains a link to the original program(s) and link to a new, updatable program, you have an easy way to update your educational content. The new program can be a simple PowerPoint presentation or a program designed to be easily updated. At point2explore, we offer an easy to use PowerPoint template as well as several “Do It Yourself” touch screen kiosk programs. By adding programs like these, you can very simply add up-to-date information and images as often as you want, keeping your visitors looking at your kiosk content.
Next blog entry will discuss some creative and updatable content solutions. Stay tuned.
